Saudi Arabia is the economic and spiritual center of the Middle East, the source of one-fourth of the world's oil, the cradle of Islam, a crucial American ally, a denouncer of Hezbollah, as well as the birthplace of Osama bin Laden and fifteen of the nineteen hijackers on September 11, 2001. There is, however, no one volume that covers the entire history of the country, starting with Muhammad. Most books focus on current events, giving short shrift to a history that is ever present to Saudis and a key to understanding them; those published recently are exceedingly biased against the country, and those that have covered the full history are at least 25 years out of date. This book would tell the Saudi history in full, the good and the bad.
