Allen B. Ballard teaches history and African-American studies at the State University of New York at Albany. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Kenyon College in Ohio and holds a Ph.D. in government from Harvard University. Dr. Ballard has published two nonfiction books, and his articles have appeared in popular journals and newspapers, including The New York Times, which just recently published his reflections on the Battle of Gettysburg. He lives in Clifton Park, New York.
