Organizational analysts have become increasingly interested in mental health systems. This book is designed to influence the direction of future research and stimulate additional work in this important and rapidly changing area.

The book first looks at health service organization at the macro-level, applying concepts from organizational theory to mental health systems. It gives a descriptive overview of existing data in this area. The focus then shifts to the micro-level of community agencies. The results of empirical studies of mental health service systems at the community level are described. Finally, the connections between large and small scale mental health systems are examined.
