Regional cooperation has become a credible and popular alternative to the "go-it-alone" development strategy. The original essays in this collection examine the efforts of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan) to work together in the areas of industry, energy, and science and technology. The contributors who represent government and academic institutions from within the region, analyze trends in trade, assess energy production and consumption patterns, and discuss regional technological cooperation. The emphasis throughout is on identifying obstacles to cooperation, and on creating practical methods of cooperating in economic development. Perceptive and thoughtful, this work provides valuable insights for students, scholars, and professionals in international affairs, international trade, foreign policy, and Asian affairs.
