Delinquency and Community summarizes the findings of the authors' twelve years study of large training schools for delinquents in Massachusetts. Their main contention is that delinquency prevention, control and treatment are primarily the responsibility of the local community and the institutionalized services and agencies through which the community acts.

Concluding chapters present new theoretical developments and discuss a pilot study of community change, social control and delinquency. A research agenda for future studies is also presented.
