Counter How to identify and empower change agents within your organization Drawn from Janice Klein's own long-term research, this book reveals how certain people in organizations-whom the author calls "outsiders on the inside"-are the key to driving innovation, adapation, and success. Organizations often look to consultants-outsiders-to push through change initiatives, but Klein maintains that true change can only come from within an organization. Drawing on examples from Boeing, Intel, Motorola, Alcoa, Ford, Kodak, and other leading companies, she shows how employees at all levels can learn the mindset of "an outsider on the inside," be in the right place at the right time to "pull" change as opposed to having it "pushed" upon them by consultants, turn seemingly random ideas and acts into predictable events with predictable results, and ultimately bring about successful change in an organization. Janice Klein (Cambridge, MA) is a senior lecturer at MIT's Sloan School of Management. She has also taught at the Harvard Business School and held various manufacturing and human resource management positions at General Electric.
