Dimitri K. Simes was born in the USSR and emigrated to the United States in 1973. He was a foreign policy advisor to former president Nixon and was also consulted by the Reagan and Bush administrations. Today he is president of The Nixon Center, a prominent foreign-policy think tank in Washington, D.C.
