Michael Laser grew up in a New York City neighborhood much like the one in which 6-321 takes place. From the day he was born, his mother filled him with reverence for great authors. So, when his sixth-grade teacher praised his writing, an ambition took root.

Many of the incidents in 6-321 are based on events from his childhood, though nothing in the book is exactly as it happened in life.

He has published many short stories in magazines; a children's picture book, The Rain; and a novel for adults, Old Buddy Old Pal. He lives in Montclair, New Jersey, with his wife, Jennifer, and his children, Helen and Alexander, and continues to write books for both children and adults.
