Phyllis Reynolds Naylor remembers some of the things she did as a young girl, such as getting a bad case of the hiccups when her favorite uncle took her to the movies. She likes to think of embarrassing things, and turn them into something funny in books.

Mrs. Naylor is the author of many books including Ducks Disappearing, King of the Playground, and Keeping a Christmas Secret. In 1992 she was awarded the Newbery Medal for her novel Shiloh. She lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with her husband, Rex.
